Child Enrichment
Children’s social and emotional health affects their overall development and learning. Research indicates that children who are mentally healthy, tend to be happier, show greater motivation to learn, have a more positive attitude toward school, more eagerly participate in-class activities, and demonstrate higher academic performance than less mentally healthy peers. Conscious Discipline is the program used to teach children how to recognize and express feelings in a positive way.
Bringing in community resources is one way to increase learning. The fire department comes to educate the children on Fire safety. We have a dentist office providing a “Tooth Fairy” to educate the children in good dental care. There are currently two programs offering additional opportunities for the children. There is a soccer program and a young child’s drama program. The Ocoee Police department brings a dog to show how they work together as a team to protect each other. The Central Florida Zoo has participated in bringing in small animals and birds to educate children on how these particular animals live.
We teach children about service to others during our Trike-a-thon. This raises money for St. Jude’s Children’s hospital. Children also participate in the Kindness Challenge. This is a national awareness campaign on the importance of being kind.
